Bringing the Sarcoma Community Together: The First Sarcoma Day – Family Edition

On Friday, October 2, 2026, the sarcoma community gathered at CHU Sainte-Justine for the first Journée québécoise sur les sarcomes – Édition des familles (Quebec Sarcoma Day – Family Edition), spearheaded by the Dania Kayali Foundation. The event brought together approximately 100 participants, including patients, family members, healthcare professionals, clinicians, researchers, and institutional representatives, with a shared goal: to provide information, support, and meaningful connections for those affected by sarcoma. Throughout the day, presentations and discussions addressed important aspects of the patient journey, including receiving a diagnosis, rehabilitation, supportive care, advances in sarcoma research, and complementary approaches to well-being. The event also provided a welcoming space for participants to share experiences, discover helpful resources, and connect with others who understand the challenges of living with sarcoma. SaRC-Q was proud to participate in this important initiative and present its resources to patients and their families. Through its website and educational initiatives, the Sarcoma Research Consortium of Quebec (SaRC-Q) aims to make reliable information more accessible, help patients better understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and connect them with relevant resources and support. Engaging directly with patients and their loved ones is an important part of our commitment to building a more informed, connected, and patient-centered sarcoma community across Quebec. At SaRC-Q, we believe that advancing sarcoma care requires more than research and collaboration among healthcare professionals. It also means listening to patients, addressing their needs, and ensuring that they and their families have access to the information and support they need throughout their journey. We extend our sincere thanks to the Dania Kayali Foundation for spearheading this initiative, as well as to CHU Sainte-Justine, the speakers, healthcare teams, and everyone who contributed to making this first edition a meaningful day of learning, connection, and solidarity. Together, we continue to strengthen collaboration, empower patients and families, and advance sarcoma research and care across Quebec.

Upcoming Clinical Trial in Sarcoma Opening in Quebec

SaRC-Q is pleased to announce the upcoming opening of the Phase I clinical trial EMBOLD Sarcoma-202 (GSK300640), evaluating risvutatug rezetecan (Ris-Rez/HS-20093), a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting B7-H3. The study is expected to open at our site on June 16, 2026, and we are anticipated to be the first site worldwide to activate this trial. This study is particularly encouraging, as the treatment has already demonstrated promising activity in patients with sarcoma in earlier studies conducted primarily in Asia. This North American study is part of the ongoing regulatory development required by agencies such as the FDA and Health Canada. Enrollment will be highly competitive globally: Eligible soft tissue sarcoma histologies include: Excluded histologies: For osteosarcoma, enrollment will proceed in global cohorts of three patients, with dose reassessment after each cohort. We encourage referring physicians to send potentially eligible patients as early as possible to allow timely eligibility assessment and maximize the chance of enrollment. SaRC-Q remains committed to improving access to clinical trials across Quebec. For patients living outside Montreal, our team can assist with accommodation and explore options to support travel expenses. We believe this represents an important opportunity for patients with sarcoma, particularly in the current context of limited access to ifosfamide. For any questions or potential referrals, please contact our team.

This remarkable initiative reflects the compassion, courage, and unwavering support that so many patients, families, and loved ones demonstrate every day. Stories like Michèle and Brigitte’s remind us of the profound impact that friendship and community can have throughout the cancer journey.
